Incorrect Numbers in H&R Block Desktop Import
complete
Emma - CoinTracker
What is the issue?
Users are experiencing discrepancies in their H&R Block Desktop import. Specifically, users report:
- losses are not being reflected correctly, even though the CoinTracker-generated Form 8949 shows the correct numbers.
- missing cost basis information.
Our engineering team has reviewed this issue and confirmed we are passing the correct data to H&R Block. We are working with their team to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
Who is affected?
Users who import their CoinTracker tax data into H&R Block Desktop may see incorrect calculations, particularly missing gains/losses and missing cost basis info.
What is the workaround?
Users should wait for a fix from H&R Block or use H&R Block Online for importing their data.
If the import is needed urgently through H&R Block Desktop, users can cross-check their CoinTracker Form 8949 against the H&R Block import and manually adjust any missing cost basis details.

I have been in touch with CoinTracker support on this issue since 2/10/2025, and it’s frustrating that it’s still not resolved. I contacted H&R Block software support as well to ask about escalating the issue, and the rep was not familiar with CoinTracker.
This is a terrible experience and I’d say false advertising since both CoinTracker and H&R Block promote each other in advertising as being worth the cost to make filing your taxes easy. It has not been easy.

Finally, with today's H&R Block 2024 Federal update to v7002, I'm seeing cost basis included in the CoinTracker import!

This is still an issue and unable to file my taxes because of it. Manually inputting thousands of transactions is not realistic when this is why many pay for cointracker

Cost basis is not being imported, resulting incorrect gains. I'm using the latest desktop update as of Feb 22, 2025

Emma - CoinTracker It is not. Two updates installed since this response and it continues to import without cost basis. Disappointing as Cointracker is the only way to import into H&R
